Gas Turbine Aerothermal Performance: Oxford Turbine Rotor Facility (OTRF). 

• Designing & analysing to complete £1m refit that will enable long-duration testing of high-pressure turbine blades in the engine-representative rotating facility.

• The research aim is to validate the adiabatic metal temperatures of numerous cooling variants for the Trent XWB engine with infra-red thermography.

• I am working with:

• DPhil student Adam Hu to record area measurements of surface temperature on high-speed rotating turbine blades with infra-red thermography.

• DPhil student Rhys Williams to characterise the influence of combustor profiles of turbulence and thermal gradient on film cooling effectiveness.

Microtube Heat-Exchangers

I want to develop the fundamental understanding of the fluid dynamics involved in closely-packed banks of microtubes.

I have recruited:

• A summer intern to work on the preliminary design of a test facility for this research.

• A 4th year project student, Gabriella Moscana, to perform preliminary work on this research program.
